Step 1: Planning & Measuring

Measure the dimensions of the area where you want to install the artificial grass to determine how much turf you need.

Select the type of artificial grass that suits your needs in terms of color, texture, and pile height.

Step 2: Prepare the Area

Remove any existing grass, weeds, rocks, or debris from the area. Use a shovel or a sod cutter for larger areas.

Ensure the ground is level. Fill in low spots and remove high spots to create a smooth surface.

Lay down a weed barrier fabric to prevent weeds from growing through the artificial grass.

Step 3: Install the Base

Spread a layer of crushed stone or decomposed granite (about 2-3 inches thick). This provides a stable foundation and helps with drainage

Use a plate compactor or hand tamper to compact the sub-base until it is firm and level.

Spread a thin layer of sharp sand (about 1 inch thick) over the compacted base. Smooth it out with a rake and compact it again.

Step 4: Lay the Artificial Grass

Unroll the artificial grass over the prepared area. Allow it to sit for a few hours to settle and reduce wrinkles

Trim the turf to fit the area using a utility knife. Make sure the edges match the shape of the space.

If you have multiple pieces of turf, join them together using seam tape and adhesive. Ensure the fibers of each piece are aligned in the same direction

Step 5: Secure the Grass

Use landscape staples or U-pins to secure the edges of the turf. Place them about 6-8 inches apart along the perimeter.

Spread silica sand or rubber granules over the turf to help the blades stand up and to provide cushioning. Use a drop spreader for even distribution.

Use a power brush or a stiff-bristled broom to brush the grass fibers upright and evenly distribute the infill.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

Trim any excess grass along the edges for a clean finish.

Inspect the installation to ensure everything is secure and looks even. Make any necessary adjustments.
